Special Holiday Delivery - California Scout Troop

Posted on 21 December 2004 by Dan

With Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on hand, Boy Scout Troop 650 of Alta Loma, California, completed their 5,500-mile, cross-country journey to deliver toys and gifts to hurricane victims in Central Florida.

The Scouts had worked for months to collect gifts and donations in their own community in California, and picked up more gifts from Scouts along the way as they traveled in a 31-foot RV through San Antonio and Irving, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida. The drive is part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Good Turn for America service initiative.

Bush came to support the Scouts of Troop 650 as they personally delivered toys to more than 200 Brevard County children at Eau Gallie Civic Center on Tuesday evening.

The event was hosted by Grace Fellowship Church of Rockledge and supported by Florida state Rep. Mitch Needelman (District 31). Gifts were given to about 210 children invited by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. Earlier in the day the Scouts delivered more than 200 gifts to senior citizens of the Holiday Park area of Palm Bay.

Good Turn for America is a national service initiative by the Boy Scouts of America and other nonprofit organizations to address the issues of hunger, inadequate housing, healthy living, and disaster recovery in our nation.
