New First Class Rank Requirement

Posted on 19 September 2005 by admin

First Class Patch
A new requirement will be added to the list of First Class requirements starting January 1, 2006. Scouts who have already started working on their First Class requirements will have until June 30th, 2006 to complete the First Class rank without the new requirement.

While it is being pushed as a method to test the candidate’s “persuasive communication skills” its really a way to make Scouting available to more youth.

The new requirement:

Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your troop’s activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service project, or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active.

The 2006 Requirements book and the Boy Scout Handbook will be updated with this new requirement . Scouts are also encouraged to use the fairly new Boy Scout Membership Website to help them.
