Switchbacks (TM)The Boy Scouts of America have released a newly designed official uniform pants. The new uniform pants are made from nylon and include a nylon web beld with the universal emblem embossed on the buckle.

The pants feature Zip-Off Pant Legs, UPF Sun Protection, Moisture-Wicking Nylon, and Bellows Crago Pockets.

The new Official Uniform Pants may be purchased online or at a Scout Shop near you.

The Boy Scouts of America Official Online Catalog, ScoutStuff.org, now offers Gift Cards redeemable online and at Scout Shop locations across the country.  The gift cards are fixed values at $25, $50, $100, $200.  Each card features a design commemorating the National Jamboree.  Previously these gift cards were only redeemable online.

Centennial Quality Awards Program

The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America have announced the Centennial Quality Awards program that is designed to recognize units, districts, councils, areas, and regions in achieving excellence in providing a quality program to a growing youth population in America at all levels of the Boy Scouts of America.  The Centennial Quality Awards program replaces the current Quality Unit Award.

LaSalle Council Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the Morris – 1st Source Scout Center at 1340 South Bend Avenue next to Parisi’s Restaurant (at the former Sears Service Building site). The gathering will be held on Monday, August 14 th at 9:45 am with a traditional Scout opening Flag Ceremony at 10:00 am.

The new 8,740 square foot development and resource center will serve as a facility for experiential learning to be used by the City of South Bend Elementary Schools as well as the Boy Scouts and other groups. It will have a state-of-the-art leadership training conference center, offices and a full-service Scout Shop.

Funded by the Ernest M. Morris family, 1 st Source Bank and generous Friends of Scouting contributors, this facility is an excellent example of partnership and collaboration. The City of South Bend, The University of Notre Dame and the LaSalle Council, Boy Scouts of America worked together with others, creating a plan to transform an area of land that once was environmentally unsound, into a thriving center for our community. “We look forward to working with the Boy Scouts to bring environmental, science and technology programs to the youth of South Bend and to attract other individuals, foundations, corporations and service clubs to join in building a better, more environmentally conscientious city,” commented South Bend Mayor Stephen Luecke.

Excerpt:

“It’s not too late. Mayor Street can still follow the scout motto and “Do a Good Turn Daily.” He can tell gay groups he’s sympathetic, but, for now, he’s going to lay off the scouts to give some kids an alternative to drugs, mischief and violence.”
