Maple Dell Scout Camp in Utah Closed Until June 15

Posted on 09 June 2009 by Editor

lakeThe first camping week for Scouts at Maple Dell Scout Camp in Payson Canyon has been cancelled. The camp will reopen on June 15. Scout units that were scheduled to attend Maple Dell Scout Camp on June 8 have been contacted and will be able to attend camp at one of the other council camps or move their registration to a later week at Maple Dell Scout Camp.

The closure was done as a precautionary event. One of the staff members became ill at camp on June 2 with flu-like symptoms. A few days later, it was confirmed that this youth staff member had the N1H1 virus (also known as Swine Flu). After discussions with the Health Department, the council decided to close the camp to eliminate the possibility of spreading the virus.

All staff members that were in camp during that week are under self-quarantine. Once they have gone the prescribed time without any symptoms, they will be allowed back into camp.
