I am so glad that my daughters can now participate in such a fine organization as American Heritage Girls. It is wonderfull that we have a choice to follow God though our participation in American Heritage Girls. My girls have the freedom to be outspoken Christians rather than be told that they can not tell other girls about God. Their faith has been strengthened. I have no fear of inapropriate teaching taking place in American Heritage Girls. It is wonderful to have the freedom to choice.

@Peter. Can you provide some documentation to support that? One of AHG's major draws is that it IS a Christian-run organization. Those who want something broader have GSUSA or Venturing. AHG is recruiting a very specific type of girl, and their focus is The Great Commission. I think you are mistaken.

In response to Pamela's entry, BSA has bent to public opinion on more than one occasion. Allowing women to hold volunteer and professional positions within BSA, both for Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting, was a major bend. By allowing girls in Explorers and Venturing was another. Both of these decisions were not necessary and are still heavily debated and fought about within individual units. Why BSA simply has not come out with their own girl based organization using their core program models, which supports many religious befiefs without promoting any one individual religion, instead of going with the very narrow American Heritage Girls which is exclusively Christian based, is quite disturbing.

I applaud BSA for their action in making an official affiliation with American Heritage Girls. It helps to give even more public legs to a new and WONDERFUL program, and it gives the existing BSA program even more creditability that they would partner with a girl scouting organization that unapologetically is Christian based. I don't understand Peter Reins above statement. Inaccurate!

AHG and BSA are working out the issue of religion and we anticipate that before long the units can be Jewish, Muslim or whatever, basically adopting the BSA approach to religion. So have patience.

One thing I think is interesting about Boy Scouts is that they reflect what makes America great - especially the freedom to choose. Being a mother to a Boy Scout and a former Girl Scout leader I am proud that my son is part of an organization that does not bend the opinion of the public at large.

Remember that the Boy Scouts is not a government agency and being a Boy Scout is not a "right" it is a privilege just like our privilege to drive. So if they choose to make a "partner" (which can be viewed like a friendship of organizations) that is their right and does not mean anything negative toward other groups. Just like many of us have friends of different faiths, political viewpoints and life values does not mean that someone is a bad person just because we are not friends with them.

Where as questions my placing or allowing my boys to participate in a program I have supported for 30 years both as a sibling to boy Scouts and as a GS Gold award recipiant I am appauled that BSA would officially hook up with a group that discriminates againt a girl or volunteer based on thier religious offiliation. Definately a desision made in poor taste.

[...] Reading this story over at ScoutingNews.org I was immediately taken aback. The Boy Scouts of America has signed a memorandum of mutual support with the American Heritage Girls. I became aware of them just about one year ago and while I have no problem with competing girl organizations I was somewhat put off by their complete focus on Jesus Christ. I like the ability of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to earn religious emblems in any faith they pursue. So when I read the following from the press release I was surprised. [...]
