Bay Lakes Council to Offer Week Long Wood Badge Course

Bay-Lakes Council, located in Wisconsin, will offer a week-long Wood Badge course this August, running from Monday through Saturday, to enable participation from scouters who faith practices do not permit/enable Sunday activities. It will be at Cub Scout World Camp Rokilio, near Kiel east of Lake Winnebago. Below is the article from the current issue of the GUIDE. Download the brochure, online at:

Wood Badge Does More
“Is that what you do at Wood Badge?” one Wood Badge staff member’s spouse was
heard to ask when serving as an audience for a rehearsal of a presentation. “I can use that in my work…What else do you do?”

While the Wood Badge curriculum is designed for leadership of all levels of Scouting programs the content is applicable for parents, teachers, leaders of departments and companies and leaders and volunteers of other organizations. It draws on the best of BSA’s experience and the books and articles written by the leading figures in the field of leadership.

Dr. Don Francis, this year’s course director, says, “I wish I could put even 1/3 of this Wood Badge course in my college course on leadership and ethics. Wood Badge uses the patrol method, so we learn and practice the leadership experience during the week and apply it in our Scouting positions the months afterward.”

People are already registering for the August 17-22, 2009, course. Only 48 participants
will be allowed to take the course, and the fee has been kept low at $225 which covers all meals, facilities, program materials, and regalia.

For more information contact Dr. Don Francis at (262) 241-5363 or You can also go to the Bay-Lakes Council web site to obtain a copy of the registration brochure at
