Last Jamboree at Ft. A.P. Hill?

We’ve been hearing rumors that the BSA has been looking for a different site for the Jamboree for a few years now. These rumors had started picking up again, with information that 2010 will be the last Jamboree held at Ft. A.P. Hill. I have yet to find anything official in writing, but Roy More posted a fairly email from a fairly reliable source on his Scout Patch Auction blog

I can officially tell you that the rumors you have heard are true. The 2010 National Jamboree will be the last one to be held at Fort A.P. Hill. There is a committee of volunteers that has been appointed by Rick Cronk, the National President, to find a permanent home for the National Jamboree that will be owned by the BSA. They are currently looking at many properties. Read the rest of the post.

If you have Scouts that want to go to the Hill they better sign up fast! Most Councils have already started accepting applications, and some have already filled their expected slots.

I see no issue with this possibility. Until 1981 all the previous Jamborees were held at various locations across our great nation. Going back to that plan will bring Scouting to the forefront of many eyes as we make our presence known at other great places again. Let us not stagnate at just AP Hill. Our boys will see and learn much more as we chose to expand our horizons.
