Lt. Governor Kinder to be honored with Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

The Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the National Eagle Scout Association have selected Lt. Governor Peter Kinder as a recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Lt. Governor Kinder was notified of the honor by the Great Rivers Council earlier this month.

“I am humbled and honored by this award,” Lt. Governor Kinder said. “For 100 years, the Boy Scouts have been instilling discipline, patriotism and the drive for success in young men across our nation. I am grateful for the leaders who took time to instill these virtues into my life while growing up in Cape Girardeau.”

Lt. Governor Kinder earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1969 as a member of Boy Scout Troop 3 sponsored by Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. In February of 1970, Lt. Governor Kinder attended the Boy Scout court of honor hosted by the Southeast Missouri Council. The class was named in honor of Senator Stuart Symington.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is granted to Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves in their life work and who give back to their communities. The award has been bestowed upon less than 2,000 of the 2 million Eagle Scouts who have attained the rank in the 100 years of scouting.

According to officials from the Great Rivers Council, with this award Missouri will become the only state in the union in which both top statewide elected officials are Distinguished Eagle Scout Award recipients.

Lt. Governor Kinder will be presented with the award at a ceremony next spring in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
