Celebrating 100 Years – National Hall of Leadership

Nominations opened yesterday for the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership.

The National Hall of Leadership is an opportunity for anyone to recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, registered Scout leader, or Scouting volunteer who made a significant difference in the life of another by the extraordinary service they have given … and the Scouting virtues they have modeled.

The National Hall of Leadership is a one-time opportunity only during the 100th Anniversary to honor and recognize Scouts, leaders and any living person who has served as a Scouting volunteer for the extraordinary difference they have made in the lives of others through their leadership.

Inductions to the 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership will be based on stories submitted online to local BSA councils across the U.S. and reviewed by a national panel of judges. Those stories must explain how nominees made an extraordinary difference in the lives of others through their leadership.

The nominations are divided into three categories: Youth (under 13), Youth (13 – 17), and Adult (over 18). The web based nomination form will ask you for some personal information about the nominee and their Scouting background, your contact information, and then the essay question:

Please relate in 450 words or less the story of how your nominee demonstrated extraordinary leadership and Scouting virtues in ways that made a meaningful difference in the lives of others:

In order to complete the application you must grant permission to share your nomination story. The application explains that the National Hall of Leadership nomination stories may be used in the following ways:

* In National Hall of Leadership marketing efforts as examples of nominations and in announcement of final inductees.
* To publicly honor nominees by sharing their story through council communication channels such as newsletters, web sites, speeches, and general marketing and/or fundraising materials.

The nomination period started on February 8, 2009 and will close on February 8, 2010. The final inductees will be announced at the BSA National Annual Meeting in Dallas in May 2010.
