New Chief Scout Executive to Start on September 1, 2007

The Chief Scout Executive Selection Committee of the Boy Scouts of America recently selected Mr. Robert J. Mazzuca, Assistant Chief Scout Executive to become the new Chief Scout Executive, effective September 1, 2007. In his role as Chief Scout Executive Bob will be responsible for providing the professional leadership for the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Mazzuca is a former Scout from San Juan Bautista, earning the Rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 28 (now 428) in 1964. During his scouting youth, he attended Camp Pico Blanco for 2 summers and later served on the Pico Blanco summer camp staff for 2 years. During his time with the Monterey Bay Area Council Mr. Mazzuca achieved the Brotherhood Honor as a member of Esselen Lodge. He received a bachelor of arts in history from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.

He began his Scouting professional career in 1971 in Modesto, California, where he served as a district executive and an Exploring Executive. He became the Exploring Director in Sacramento in 1975 and eventually served as a Field Director and the Director of Field Service. In 1983 Mazzuca became the Scout Executive in Stockton, California, before serving as an area director in the Western Region and Scout Executive in Sacramento, Calif. In 1992 he became the Assistant Regional Director for the Southern Region and in 1995 the Scout Executive in Pittsburgh. His most recent position is that of Assistant Chief Scout Executive of the BSA.
