Out With The Old (2008)

Its always fun, and a good idea, to look back at the past year as the New Year approaches. With that in mind, here is a little recap of 2008 here on Scouting News:

Top Stories for 2008
1. If You Don’t Complete Your Ticket While this video was actually posted on December 29, 2007, it has been the most viewed story at Scouting News throughout the year. If you haven’t checked it out, it is quite comical- especially if you are familiar with Wood Badge.

2. National Council Releases 2010 Jamboree Promo Video Throughout the year excitement has been growing over the 2010 National Scout Jamboree. This story announced the release of the Promo Video for the Jambo, including the tagline “The Best, most exciting, fun filled,
safest Jamboree EVER!”

3. Eagle Scout Application Change National started requiring a new Eagle Scout application be used as of May 1st, 2008. The new form which requires a name and total hours for the Eagle Scout Project will allow Councils, Region, and National to run statistical reports on Eagle Scout Projects.

Visitors
We started out the year with approximately 2,047 page views a month, these views were made by 692 visitors. We are ending the year with approximately 8,868 page views a month, made by 3,452 visitors. It was exciting to see our visitor count grow as the year progressed. There were more comments, more feedback, and a larger desire to provide news. Thanks for your support!

New Stuff that happened in 2008
1. We started holding Contests here at Scouting News. The first for a copy of the “We are Americans, We Are Scouts” Book, the second for Season One of “Scouting Adventure” on DVD. For those that are interested, we are planning on holding more contests throughout 2009!

2. We added a Scouting News Twitter Account (@ScoutingNews). So far it has been used to announce new stories and request feedback from our readers. Big thanks to @scouterjeff, @smjerry, @Boy_Scouts, @ScoutExecutive, @Crew250, @stevejb68, and @westybsa for following.

Overall, 2008 was a year of growth for Scouting News. Coming tomorrow, learn what is in store for Scouting News in 2009 and learn what some of our readers wish to accomplish in the New Year!
