Area Scouts Carry Out the Boy Scout Law by Helping Others

Posted on 30 August 2009 by admin

A Cleaner World LogoArea Boy Scouts are banning together to help their fellow Scouts by putting their outgrown uniforms to good use. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and A Cleaner World have teamed up for the “Outfit a Scout” program to help distribute used uniforms to Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in need.

From August 17 through October 3, A Cleaner World is accepting used Scout uniforms shirts, shorts and pants as well as belts, socks and neckerchiefs at any one of its 26 participating locations throughout the state. A Cleaner World will clean and press the uniforms, which then will be distributed by participating BSA councils to lower-income Scouts who might not otherwise be able to afford uniforms.

“The Boy Scout Law teaches a Scout to be loyal, helpful, friendly and kind, among other things. The ‘Outfit a Scout’ program is a great way for Scouts to give back to those who otherwise would not be able to afford a uniform and reinforces the value of what it means to be a Scout,” said John Meeks, executive director for the Old North State Council (ONSC) of the Boy Scouts of America. “We are grateful for the invaluable assistance of A Cleaner World, and we hope that many Scout parents will take advantage of this opportunity to empty their closets and help fellow Scouts in need.”

“We are honored to assist the Boy Scouts through the ‘Outfit a Scout’ program,” said Chris Edwards, president of A Cleaner World. “It is a natural fit for us, and A Cleaner World and its employees are excited about this unique opportunity to help the Scouts and give back to our community. Remember, ‘Don’t throw it out — outfit a Scout’.”

The timing for this program is integral, as the fall is the Scouts highest enrolment period. Scout uniforms promote belonging and unity within the pack or troop so no donation is too small, it could make the difference in a child’s life. Uniforms of any recent vintage will be accepted.
