Three Rivers District - Quapaw Area Council Welcomes New District Executive

Posted on 13 January 2008 by Dan

Kathy Thompson may come to Three Rivers District as a new Professional Scouter, but she is not new to Scouting, having over nine years of service as a volunteer. Most recently, she served as an Assistant District Commissioner and was honored as the 2004 Commissioner of the Year by Spanish Trails District of the Pine Burr Area Council, headquartered in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

After losing her home in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi in Hurricane Katrina, Kathy came to Arkansas to be near her parents. She fell in love with the natural beauty of Arkansas and decided not to return to the coast. She recently moved to the Conway area along with her two daughters, Kimberly and Lynsey, and their families, which include a total of eight grandchildren. Kathy also has two sons, Richard and his wife Kristy, who live in Fort Collins, Colorado and Chad who recently relocated to Pensacola, Florida from Gulfport, Mississippi.

Kathy, who holds both a B.A. and a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Mississippi, said she is excited about working in the Quapaw Area Council. “I’m looking forward to getting to know all of the volunteers within the Three Rivers District, and I am excited to serve them as a professional,” said Thompson. “I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work,” she said.
