BSA Innovation Engine

Posted on 09 November 2008 by Dan

The National Council has set up a BSA Innovation Engine to manage new ideas for the Scouting Program. You can see a video from Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca that explains the concept, there is also a Frequently Asked Question section.

Currently the site is just open to employees of the Boy Scouts of America. According to the website, “In the future, the Innovation Engine will be expanded to include suggestions and comments from volunteers, Scouts and the communities we serve. We anticipate making the website functionality fully accessible to everyone no later than Jan. 1, 2009.”

Some of the current ideas:
Training Passport
Longer Centennial Uniform Shirts
Invite ‘Dirty Jobs’ to the National Jamboree
Scout Presence at Super Bowl 2010
‘No Child Left Inside’ Marketing Campaign
Electric Vehicles at the 2010 Jamboree
Supply Division -Free Shipping

and a few “bad” ideas:
TXTng Language Strip (ie. interpreter strip)
Change the Organization Name (Being called a “boy” is demeaning)

While I can’t wait to see the site opened to everyone, it is interesting to browse right now. Even if some of the ideas may not be acted upon by the National Organization, individual Councils may find “hidden gems”.

If you could suggest an idea today, what would you suggest?
