Thirteen Proves Lucky For Lloyd In Iowa

Posted on 25 June 2011 by Press Release

Alex Lloyd, driver of the #19 Boy Scouts of America car, showed off his driving skills as the 26-year-old improved nine positions to finish thirteenth in the fifth running of the Iowa Corn 250 on the 1-mile Iowa Speedway oval Saturday night.

Lloyd, who started the race 22nd, gained the third most positions and completed all 250 laps. He was consistently running in the top 10 during the practice session on Friday afternoon.

“The #19 Boy Scouts of America car had a great run tonight,” Lloyd said. “The team did another fantastic job giving me the best car possible.”

Lloyd will be back behind the wheel of the #19 Boy Scouts of America car in Loudon, NH on August 7th. Four-time Champ Car Series Champion Sebastien Bourdais will once again take over the duties of driving the BSA car for the next three road/street course races at Toronto, Edmonton and Mid-Ohio.

Making his third oval track start of the season, Dale Coyne Racing rookie driver James Jakes (#18 Acorn Stairlifts) finished 25th. After a promising last practice session last night, Jakes came out ready to conquer the Iowa Speedway. However, on lap 24, Jakes crashed hard into the wall in turn two after Charlie Kimball cut down in front of Jakes, causing him to lose traction on the cold track surface.

“We had difficult conditions out there tonight,” Jakes said. “It was so cold and difficult to pass. Everyone was trying to get low because that is where the grip seemed to be. It is unfortunate because the #18 Acorn Stairlifts car was quick here.”

Jakes’ streak of five consecutive races running at the end of race came to an end in Iowa. “These things are bound to happen,” Jakes commented. “Hopefully we can build another streak starting in Toronto.”

The IZOD IndyCar Series takes a week off before heading north of border for the running of the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday, July 10. The race can be seen live on VERSUS starting at 2 p.m. (EDT).
